Family philanthropy

_____

There also is a structured form of private generosity distinct from that of individuals, large historical foundations and corporate philanthropy: family philanthropy.

In 2012, when we began this project, this phenomenon, with its ambiguous contours and bordering on the intimate sphere, was still underresearched. Although it already was a well-established sub-category of foundations in the United States, it was just beginning to be noticed in France. It is now better recognized, notably thanks to the emergence of representative bodies such as the association Un esprit de famille.

What are the contours and specificities of family philanthropy ? Who are these families who get involved ? What are their motivations ? How do they organize their action ? What issues do they face ?
