Meeting with Anand Giridharadas

____

The ESSEC Philanthropy Chair team is delighted to invite you to a privileged meeting with Anand Giridharadas, author of the book

“Winners take all. The elite charade of changing the world”

(Penguin Random House, 2018).

Tuesday, October 1, 2024

From 9 am to 10:30 am (welcome from 8:30 am)

at Maison des ESSEC (Paris 8e)

Six years after the release of his bestseller, the writer and essayist Anand Giridharadas, a former columnist for The New York Times, returns to Paris to share with us the lessons of his masterful work, which offers a substantiated critique of “philanthrocapitalism”'s impasses.

Together, we will reflect on the desirable role of philanthropy and private initiative in public affairs within our divided democracies.

A conversation moderated by Arthur Gautier (professor) and Anne Monier (researcher), from the ESSEC Philanthropy Chair.

The meeting will be accompanied by a breakfast and followed by a book sale in the presence of the author.

Forbes' opinion

“Giridharadas isn't afraid to speak his mind, even if it means taking down some of the most powerful people on the planet… He has started a movement with this scathing critique of a society that rewards monopolistic models, faux philanthropy and protects the interests of a wealthy few.” — Tabitha Goldstaub, Forbes.

Bill Gates' opinion

“In Anand’s thought-provoking book his fresh perspective on solving complex societal problems is admirable. I appreciate his commitment and dedication to spreading social justice.” — Bill Gates, philanthrope.

The meeting will be held in English.

This event is free upon registration, but seating is limited. Book your ticket now via the form on this page!

This meeting is made possible thanks to the Tallard Residence, a KADIST program which aims to welcome to Paris international personalities recognized for their innovative ideas and their impact on society.

Many thanks to the King Baudouin Foundation for its close collaboration in organizing Anand Giridharadas' Paris program.

Finally, we would like to thank the partners of the ESSEC Philanthropy Chair: the Fondation de France, the Fondation Caritas France, the Fondations Edmond de Rothschild and the Fondation Daniel et Nina Carasso.
