Philanthropy and Gender Politics - Kristin Goss

What role has philanthropy played in the formation of feminist movements in the United States? More broadly, what impact can philanthropy have on the very definition of the causes it supports?

A few days before International Women's Rights Day, this new episode of the "Philanthropy in question(s)" podcast highlights the impact of philanthropic organizations on political life through the example of the feminist movements in the United States in the second half of the 20th century.

Anne Monier presents an article by Kristin Goss entitled  "Foundations of feminism: How Philanthropic Patrons shaped Gender Politics" (2007). Based on an analysis of 6,500 foundation grants to feminist organizations from the 1970s to the 1990s, the researcher shows how philanthropy helped shape feminist movements and gender politics in the United States.

A unique and fascinating article at the crossroads of political science, the study of philanthropy and gender studies.
